The G740 maximizes distance, forgiveness and consistency, making it a great choice for golfers who best fit into a super-game-improvement iron, delivering faster ball speeds and higher launch. Its wider sole, longer blade length and thicker topline combine to lower the CG and increase the MOI for more forgiveness. A new PurFlex cavity badge helps attenuate frequencies to substantially improve the impact experience. Available 5-9, PW, UW, 50°, 56°.
Technology & features
- Limited Midnight Finish Option: Darker, glare-reducing Midnight gives PING’s largest iron a slimmer, smaller appearance with more contrasting visual cues at address, plus silver and black paint fill for added appeal. Available for a limited time.
- Wider Dual-Camber Sole: The dual-camber sole helps position the CG down and back, leading to faster ball speeds and higher launch. The club also gets into and out of the ground easier.
- Pleasing Feel And Sound: Behind the thin, flexible face a PurFlex cavity badge, with three flex zones, helps control face bending while enhancing feel and sound.
- Larger, Faster Face: The hyper 17-4 stainless steel face flexes more to generate faster ball speed, higher launch and more distance with added forgiveness to hit and hold greens.
- Extreme Forgiveness: The longer blade length and thicker topline contribute to a higher MOI, making it PING’s most forgiving iron. The larger face helps ensure more consistent strikes for the target golfer.
- Forgiving Sole: The wider sole provides forgiving turf interaction and the shorter hosel allows for more mass buildup in the cavity for an improved impact experience. High-density toe and tip weights dial in swing weight.
- Ping-Engineered Shafts: In AWT 3.0 steel, lighter long-iron shafts deliver for more speed and max height; heavier short irons offer control and precision. ALTA CB Blue graphite is a lightweight, counter-balanced design promoting mid-high to high launch.

Power Spec Loft is a fitting option for players looking to boost their iron distance or decrease spin to hit a desired trajectory window. This custom-designed loft configuration delivers a calculated power boost without sacrificing the integrity of the club’s design. Retro Spec Loft is a fitting option if you’re less concerned with overall distance and more with precision and a higher trajectory for more stopping power. This loft configuration yields functional distance gaps for utilizing a 3-wedge setup or a more classic loft spec. Retro Spec and Power Spec Lofts are not available with Midnight finish. Club bounce angles will vary slightly if ordered with non-standard loft specs. Standard swingweights for graphite-shafted clubs are 2 to 3 points lighter than shown, depending on shaft flex. Achievable swingweights depend on shaft, length and grip combinations. Available in left- and right-handed models.
